Security & fraud center
What we do, what you can do, and what to do if something has already gone wrong.
What we will never do
We will never call, text or email you to ask for your password, your full card number, a one-time code, or your PIN. Not during a fraud investigation, not to verify your identity, not ever. If someone asks for any of those and says they are from Greendale, they are not from Greendale. Hang up and call a branch.
The one-time code is the one that catches people. A real code is something you requested seconds ago and are typing into our app yourself. Anyone asking you to read one aloud is taking over your account while you talk.
What we do
- Monitoring. Card transactions are screened continuously, and a pattern that doesn't look like you may hold a transaction until we reach you.
- Alerts you control. You set the thresholds and the channels. The member who notices the fifteen-dollar test charge is the reason the four-hundred-dollar one never happens.
- Card controls. Freeze a card from the app the moment you can't find it, and unfreeze it when it turns up in the couch.
- Zero liability. You are not responsible for unauthorized card transactions you report promptly.
- Encryption and multi-factor sign-in on everything, which is table stakes and we would rather say so than dress it up.
What you can do
- Turn on transaction alerts. It is the single highest-value thing on this page.
- Use a password manager and a different password here than anywhere else.
- Be suspicious of urgency. Nearly every successful scam works by making you act before you think — a frozen account, a warrant, a package, a grandchild in trouble.
- Never move money to "protect" it. No legitimate institution or agency will ever ask you to do that.
- Check your statement monthly, all the way down.
The scams we see most
The impostor call. Caller ID says it is us. Caller ID can say anything. Hang up, then call a branch yourself.
The marketplace overpayment. A buyer sends more than the price and asks for the difference back. The original payment reverses days later and the difference is gone.
The romance or family emergency. Slow and patient, then suddenly urgent, and always ending in gift cards or a wire.
The fake check. Funds from a deposited check can be made available to you before the check clears. Availability is not clearing.
If it has already happened
Call or visit a branch immediately. Freeze the card in the app first if you can — that takes seconds and buys time. Then write down what happened while it is fresh, including times and any numbers involved. Reporting quickly matters more than reporting perfectly.
